We're left with so many questions. Can Rhonda survive the fall? Will Lucious make good on his threat to kill Hakeem? And most important, as this season continues to go off the rails, will you still be around to watch?

If you weren't hooting and hollering the moment the saliva went flying, what the hell are you watching TV for? That's entertainment, folks.

As with every episode in the season, even when something devastating happens, everything still came up Jamal.

I don't know how Empire managed to become more ridiculous AND more boring at the same time, but it's quite an accomplishment. That said, this episode... fully owned its soap opera tendencies and mostly pulled it off.
December 03, 2015
The show was back to doing what it does best: throwing soap opera-like curveballs that will have you either gasping, or shaking your head at the sheer excess of it all.

I would hazard some predictions about what Empire has in store for us next year, but I have a sinking feeling, given its recycling of season one stock, that we've seen most of the show's tricks.

Once again, the Empire is spinning out of control. On tonight's midseason finale, "Et Tu, Brute?," Lucious was challenged perhaps the most he's ever been.
December 03, 2015
In the explosive mid-season finale, Rhonda may or may not be alive, Lucious Lyon is removed as CEO of Empire by his youngest son and Cookie Lyon heads back to prison.

The end went out with a bang. Or rather, a fall.

The way the show treats Jamal and Skye's brief time together as a positive thing that just "happened," even with that awkward racial identity analogy thrown in, is ultimately refreshing.
