Empire - Season 2 Episode 04: Poor Yorick
The series centers around a hip hop music and entertainment company, Empire Entertainment, and the drama among the members of the founders' family as they fight for control of the company. In Season 2, knowing Lucious won’t be held much longer in prison, Cookie and her allies within the Lyon family make a desperate attempt to seize control of the company.

Cookie clearly won the Empire war this week - she dug deep and came up with a fantastic counter to Lucious's monopoly over the airwaves.

All in all, the episode wasn't lacking in drama, but the over the top feel was taken down a few notches, and I can only hope Lee Daniels and Co. are packing their furs and flashing lights away with the intention of keeping the show tasteful.

Props to Cookie, though, for invoking Sandra Bland, the African-American woman whose mysterious death in police custody was ruled a suicide this summer, during her arrest. ("If I die in police custody, it was not a suicide!")

Watching Cookie hustle is one of the best parts of Empire. Like the animals whose prints cover her shoes, she's at her fiercest when she's backed into a corner, ready to claw her way out.
