Thankfully, the episode... had the subplot tying back into the main plot. It progressed the season-long arc.

It's always nice to be reminded what this show can do when it's not straining for dark melodrama.

This season has struggled with how, exactly to use Ralph Dibney, and this was the first episode that felt like a real success on that front.

The biggest problem with "Subject 9" isn't its lack of sense, though. It's the lack of sense without any humor or other redeeming qualities to make it tolerable.

The problem here is that we're 14 episodes into the season and we have even less of an idea of what DeVoe wants than we ever have.
