Marco Polo season 2 has several moving parts to its plot, but the team of writers and directors prove once again that they can handle a show of this scale.

The potential for converts isn't even up for discussion as Marco Polo delves into its byzantine, stylish second season, which has just enough nifty set pieces and cool characters to compensate (barely) for a humdrum wartime plot.

Pushing its hero sideways and making more of its Asian roots won't solve all of this drama's problems. But at least the signs are there now that Marco Polo might yet live up to its promise.
