It's refreshing - especially having made it through the networks' spotty fall lineups - to be back in the comforting hands of TV's most playful show.

"Waiting for Dutch" was an incredible season premiere that put to rest any concerns that the series would not be able to live up to the nearly flawless Fargo Season 1.

If this Midwestern morality play's second act is anywhere near as good as its first, aw jeez, that would be just terrific, sure.

So far, this season is feeling like a more muscular extension of pre-established themes, with callbacks aplenty but a fresh set of characters who aren't entirely set up as analogs to Fargo characters past.

It's a coy play on a fictitious tale that still manages to feel real, despite some truly oddball antics and extreme scenarios. That authenticity carved out of a mad world is what we were looking for... and it's exactly what was delivered tonight.

A fantastic first episode that sets a warm tone, with a bite of darkness.

Performances were universally excellent. Dunst and Danson were terrific but outshone by Wilson, who was winningly phlegmatic and wearily wise.
