The drama tells the story of a young teenager living in South Florida. He is a teenager named David and attends a magnetic school for academically gifted youth. David, played by newcomer Akelie McDowell, lives in extreme poverty but tries to escape that cycle through two different worlds. David travels between the streets that raised him and the school moved him out of poverty.
