Cobra Kai - Season 1
Cobra Kai takes place 30 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament and finds Johnny Lawrence (Zabka) on the hunt for redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo. This reignites his old rivalry with the successful Daniel LaRusso (Macchio), who has been working to maintain the balance in his life without mentor Mr. Miyagi.

"Cobra Kai" is a lesson to others interested in mining the '80s for reboot ideas; if you're going to rely on nostalgia, at least do something interesting with it.

Cobra Kai is so good it gives me hope that long-mooted follow-ups to other '80s classics like Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Goonies or Midnight Run could actually be done well.

But if we must reboot our beloved old favorites, it's much better to see it done like this, using the passage of time as an asset and a way into a different story about the same people, than as a cheap rehash...
