Don attempts to return to his advertising agency after being put on indefinite leave following a meltdown in the middle of a client meeting. Eventually, his status at the firm becomes the focus of a bitter power struggle between Roger and Jim, both of whom want to take Sterling Cooper & Partners in radically different directions. The highly anticipated series conclusion will, for the last time, follow the complex lives of Don, Peggy, Roger, Joan, Betty and Pete as their stories come to an end. It's the End of an Era.

In the annals of Mad Men season restarts, the "Severance" episode may be the most underwhelming of them all. Nothing about this series ever plunges to the depths of terrible. But as galvanizing hours of television go, this isn't Mad Men with a bang.

I'll say that the themes that have defined Mad Men are still very much at play in "Severance" as is Weiner's willingness to spend time with characters outside of his core group of regulars.

Weiner explored the meaning of life without going pretentious or heavy-handed. Don's terrific downer in Sunday's episode suggests that Mad Men will receive a finish befitting a landmark series.
