People are doing very criminal acts and the panic is spreading around them when Bernadette was 17 years old. Her boyfriend, Brian Sogrim, told her that he had killed someone... and did not believe him. Brian was smart, charming and an ideal lover - Bernadette wanted her 'happily afterwards.' The couple got married and started a family... But then Bryan began to change. He became angry, abusive and violent. But Bernadette did not tell the police her husband's secret. Then, after a decade of horrific assault, Brian came home one night and confessed to Bernadette that he had killed someone else. When she married Sheila Janutullo for the first time Jim Cruise, she hated the fact that his job kept him away too much. But Jim seems not to feel the same way. He never called home and told her that there was no way to reach him on the road. After a while, he started back from his travels in a dark mood... and with a violent temperament. Sheila was frightened alone at home with him, and with each passing day, she felt more besieged. But when she got the call years after his arrest, she was sure the police were wrong.
