Where Hands Touch
There is still a dark side in the life of 15-year-old Lina, the daughter of a white German mother and a black father. The tragedy of Lena begins when she was frightened by the color of her black skin. The life of that dark girl may vary when she meets Lutz, the son of a senior SS officer and member of Hitler's youth, mandatory for all Aryan boys since 1936. Both may be at risk under the racism during Hitler's time, both in a deep love story that changed everything.

Asante focuses our attention on yet another story of the Black experience and she accomplishes what she sets out to do. Where Hands Touch is an important and beautiful film.September 20, 2018
Where Hands Touch is a waste of solid acting by Amandla Stenberg, and time for its viewers. Asante's attempt to make Nazi characters appear sympathetic is a perfect example of not reading the room, especially in this contentious time in our country.September 19, 2018
The longer it lasts, the more insipid it getsSeptember 28, 2018
... provides mild insight into an obscure aspect of the war, although its heartfelt intentions ring hollow amid an abundance of sentimentality.September 10, 2018
When the complex, humanizing portrayal of Nazi characters and SS soldiers enter the picture, good intentions do derail fast, leading to disturbing outcomes.December 16, 2018
While not hitting the heights it could have, Where Hands Touch is a reminder that there are plenty of stories from this era that have yet to be told.September 10, 2018
Throughout, Asante raises questions about bravery, conscience and, most of all, identity.September 13, 2018
Asante usually excels at sharing stories audiences haven't seen before, so it's unfortunate that this one feels so dully familiar.September 21, 2018
Where Hands Touch is unfortunately as problematic as we assumed; the questions it raises about national vs. cultural identity didn't need a Nazi romance to be resonant.September 13, 2018
A gut-wrenching misfire.September 10, 2018
Stenberg carries the magnetism she brought to her breakthrough role in the YA romance "Everything, Everything," but she's betrayed by a stilted rendering of a rarely illuminated piece of history.September 14, 2018
Where Hands Touch is a coming of age story, a saga of war, and a heart-rending love story about a forbidden romance that defied the odds against survival in a living hell.
