Stephen King's book outlines a world ringed with abuse, Brian De Palma visualizes it with vast amounts of pervy humor and ominous effulgenceOctober 18, 2013
... a cautionary tale that suggests that fear of the unusual justifies any action to displace the potential danger... My, how times have changed.October 12, 2016
One of cinema's ultimate operatic teenage melodramas. I have seen "Carrie" more times than I can count, and yet it never loses its uncommon heartbreak and blood-curdling dramatic power.October 13, 2008
An exercise in high style that even the most unredeemably rational among moviegoers should find enormously enjoyable.February 28, 2017
The real horror of Carrie does not lie with the vengeful, telepathic teenager of the movie's title, but in the endless stream of abuse she endures for the majority of its runtime.October 07, 2008
Carrie is a modest but effective shock-suspense drama about a pubescent girl, her evangelical mother and cruel schoolmates.October 06, 2013
A voluptuously shot horror movie.September 27, 2015
Carrie won't add much to your life -- but it will scare you, not least about your friends and neighbours.June 04, 2011
More superpowers from Brian De Palma, this time in high school, in a screen version of a Stephen King novel that's become a horror classic.September 25, 2007
This 1976 thriller, about a high school outcast (Sissy Spacek) who uses her telekinetic powers to massacre the graduating class, contains a number of interesting ideas. But as with most of his films, De Palma can't keep track of them.November 03, 2015
With each new movie, [De Palma] comes closer to mastering Hitchcock's trademark of teasing suspense and tongue-in-cheek horror.
